The European Union Timber Regulations (EUTR) are due to come into force in March / April of 2013. This has been slated as Europe’s answer to the Lacey Act but it’s expected to be less expansive in scope with the aim of limiting the import to the E.U. of endangered or illegally logged wood.
It may present some problems for travelling musicians and instrument makers as proof of origin of various woods may be a requirement for entry and, of course, for most people that would be practically impossible. We will have to wait until we see the details of the regulations before getting too concerned.
Any updated information will be posted here.
