David Heckenberg commenced an apprenticeship in violin repair on completion of high school in 1992.
In 1999, David was accepted into the Newark School of Violin Making in England. During his time at the Newark School, he gained invaluable experience working in London for respected luthier Stefan Krattenmacher, restoring early period instruments. After graduating from Newark with a Diploma of Violin Making and Repair certified by the London City and Guilds, he returned to Brisbane in 2002 and began employment in the workshop of John Simmers. David Heckenberg established his own workshop in Brisbane in 2006.
